Code of Conduct

The European Code of Conduct for Clearing and Settlement that was agreed upon on 7 November 2006 by infrastructures providing trading and post-trading services in the European Union (EU), marked an important step towards an integrated and efficient post-trading market in the EU. The measures detailed in the Code of Conduct aim at enhancing transparency and increasing competition in the post-trading sector.

Olympia Capital Exchange strongly supports Commissioner McCreevy's Code of Conduct as a means to deliver greater transparency and access for users of European trading, clearing and settlement services more quickly than a directive would have been able to achieve.

Even though the Code of Conduct will apply initially to equities only, the international central securities depository and all the national central securities depositories implemented and used by the Olympia Capital Exchange intend to apply the Code of Conduct from the outset to all asset classes, including fixed income, to ensure continued momentum. The Code of Conduct has been implemented in the following phases:

  • Price Transparency has been rigorously applied
  • Access and Interoperability conditions have been agreed
  • Services have been unbundled and accounting separation has been implemented

Olympia is committed to make further enhancements to its service descriptions and pricing mechanism standards. Furthermore, the implementation of Olympia’s platform consolidation and harmonization initiatives will not only make cross-border settlement cheaper and more efficient. These initiatives will also mean that our clearing services will become more harmonized over time, thereby further increasing transparency of services and transaction prices, and greater ease of comparability.

Our enhanced transaction and price execution model provide a basis for the development of new links between trading platforms, central counterparties and settlement systems offering market participants peace of mind in the clearing and settlement of their securities trades.

Service unbundling and accounting separation:

In view of the implementation of 'Service Unbundling' of the Code of Conduct, agreement has been reached on a common understanding of the services that have to be unbundled and is reflected in a common implementation of the Code's unbundling commitments to which Olympia strictly adheres.

In addition, Olympia has taken the necessary steps to comply with the Accounting Segregation provisions of the Code of Conduct for this accounting year and forward to give our customers a seamless understanding of how there stock or bond trade progresses from price indication through execution to securities clearing and delivery.

Trading Risk

Trading securities, futures, and options is a volatile and complex business that involves risk of loss. The valuation of such instruments may fluctuate and, as a result, you may incur significant losses. Before you trade, you should consider your financial experience, goals, and financial resources and know how much you can afford to lose above and beyond your initial investment. Stock prices can be extremely volatile, especially new and exciting technology, natural resource and Internet stocks. Futures markets are also extremely volatile and are also highly leveraged.

Risks of Margin

If you decide to trade securities on margin, you should understand that there are risks involved. A sudden drop in the price of an instrument (i.e., stock or option) could cause you to receive a margin call. Because of the nature of their markets, futures and options are always traded on margin, and you can receive a margin call on any significant price change, up or down. In such case, you would be required to deposit additional collateral into your account. If you do not respond in a timely manner, the existing collateral in your account could be sold or, in the case of futures, your positions liquidated, in order to cover the call, and you would be responsible for any losses to your account. To reduce this risk, do not overextend yourself. Maintain account equity well above the minimum margin maintenance and variation requirements, and be aware that these requirements can change at any time.

Risk Instruments

All investment instruments involve risk and are not suitable for all investors. Before you begin investing or trading, understand that investors or traders may lose the entire amount of their investment in a relatively short period of time depending on the financial instrument and risks involved.

Olympia Capital Exchange. provides self-directed investors with services and only provides Stock Selections and Sector recommendations to facilitate the independent investor with information access to ultimately make their own investment decisions. Recommendations or other investment advice is provided for informational purposes only and does not constitute a recommendation to enter into any securities transaction or to engage in any of the investment strategies presented by Olympia and only represent opinions of Olympia research analysts. Trading has inherent risks due to system response and access times that vary due to market conditions, system performance and other factors. An investor should understand these and additional risks before trading or investing.

Product Information

Product or stock recommendation performance is measured using generally accepted accounting principles and reflects approximate performance of recommendations in aggregate of any specific product, stock, system or derivative thereof. Any differences in customer account holdings, timing and acceptance of recommendations may affect actual performance of each customer account relative to general price levels and the assumed action results at the time of recommendation and or actual execution levels and buyers should consult other sources of information to evaluate their own actual account performance. Additionally, certain financial products mentioned on this website might still be under development and not ready for commercial launch.

Safety of Client Funds

Assuring client fund safety is one of the single most important factors in the financial industry. Olympia maintains an insurance policy from a major provider covering all customer funds. Furthermore, Olympia has years of experience managing risk, a strong balance sheet, and offers additional legal and structural guarantees:

Client funds held with Olympia are maintained in separate customer accounts and may never be utilized for operating expenses or for other purposes or commingled with Olympia operating capital.

Funds are withdrawn from these bank accounts only as a direct result of clients' trading activities or clients' request for withdrawal. In the unlikely event of Olympia bankruptcy, client funds are legally protected and returned directly to the customer.

It is important to note that Olympia maintains a solid balance sheet with Net Capital in excess of most minimum regulatory requirements.
